Paul Spires

Paul is a strategic and pragmatic Business Advisor and Finance Director, who brings with him a wealth of experience (25+ years) working with dynamic entrepreneurial businesses, to ensure that they have the right financial reporting, processes and controls in place to underpin rapid growth.

Through his role as Managing Director of Inspire Business Development, he assists management teams and shareholders with strategic, accounting and corporate finance (pre and post deal) requirements.

Recent examples of assistance provided include:

Light Source Design Limited

  • Paul  is currently Finance Director of Light Source Design Limited. Light Source is one of the UK’s leaders in the design, build and implementation of fibre optic networks, with a Bluechip customer base (including Openreach and KCOM) and has successfully delivered an impressive 224% CAGR over a two-year period.
  • Paul has helped establish enhanced financial reporting, budgeting, systems, processes and controls to provide a solid foundation for its continued rapid growth and has become an integral part of the leadership team.

Bionical Limited

  • Bionical was a leading, Global Healthcare Services Provider, backed by Private Equity. Having achieved significant growth (a revenue CGR of 68% over two years).
  • Paul assisted Bionical with acquisition support and integration (Bionical made three acquisitions over an 18-month period) and operational enhancements.

E-Lites

  • E-Lites was one of the UK’s most successful e-cigarette brands. The business experienced massive growth – over a 12 months period its retail presence increased from 200 to over 20,000 outlets, turnover increased by 262% and EBITDA by 311%.
  • Paul worked with the business through the stages of 1) Stabilisation, 2) Operational enhancements and rapid growth, 3) Preparation for sale and 4) Post-sale integration, following the business’ ultimate sale to Japan Tobacco.

Prior to founding Inspire, Paul spent several years at both KPMG, the international accountancy advisory firm and Catalyst Corporate Finance, the UK’s leading independent corporate finance advisor. He also qualified as a Chartered Accountant (FCA), Insolvency Practitioner (JIEB) and Corporate Financier (CF).

Paul particularly enjoys leading and developing finance teams and working closely with operational and commercial staff to maximise business value and efficiencies.  Outside of work, Paul enjoys spending time with his family (he is married with two sons), films and walking.
